The Foundation Certificate in Accounting is the longer, more in-depth entry course that AAT offers. For those interested in a shorter course, or if you want to start at the very beginning of accountancy, there is the AAT Introductory Award – AAT Access Course (Level 1).

What level of knowledge do I need to study the Foundation Certificate in Accounting?
AAT Level 2 is deceptively named. Many applicants start with little to no experience of accounting and many have not completed the AAT Access Course (Level 1) before they start Level 2. Essentially, if you’re committed to continuing up through the AAT Levels, this is the perfect place to start. AAT recommends the course as an introduction for school leavers and workers looking to retrain.
What will I learn?

- Complete bank reconciliations
- Begin using various accounting softwares
- Communicate effectively in a modern business environment
How long will the course take?
A typical Level 2 course takes around a year to complete, however, it can be completed in as little as six months.
How much does the course cost?
The cost of the Foundation Certificate in Accounting ranges from £600 to £2,000. Each registered AAT course provider will also either include or exclude various supplementary costs, such as textbooks, examination fees and student memberships.
After I graduate?
The great thing about AAT is that you have choice once you graduate. If you want to go directly into the workforce, there are many positions open for Level 2 graduates.
